blossom goodbye!
This 7th of February, 2009, one very very sweet voice and beautiful songwriter and piano player, left this planet.
Blossom Dearie, whom I met through Eumir Deodato, in New York City, years ago, singing in an adorable, cozy little cabaret, typical in midtown Manhattan.
A couple of days before, I was talking about her and listening to some of her great tracks.
Last year, I tried to take my cousins, Debora and Eduardo to see Blossom, but she was performing at that time. It was a unique performance, and so much fun to watch...that I wanted to show her to everyone I love.
Please, Check out her great tracks from mid 50 and 60s.In the early 70's she formed her own label.
Eumir told me, she was also friend of Jobim and Michell Legrand, She was really respected among musicians.
I sent an e-mail o Eumir Deodato, to see if he had received the news. He knew it already and he was sad. He was in London, recording, and then going to Spain, to attend to a wedding in Valencia.
Well, she wasn't wellknown in Brazil in my opinion, but she was considerate to be the last surviving supperclub singer in America to die. I so glad I got to see her performing. Cool and hip! great jazz tracks, and she recorded Quiet Nights (Corcovado), a bossa by Mr.Jobim, of course.
